Although I’ve never quite fancied the weak and hollow vocals of Jonas Bjerre I feel that Apparatjik’s style of music fits his abilities better. His voice just can’t help appearing totally out of place in the middle of all that otherwise quite proggy and eclectic Mew sound (I think), though fans would probably kill me for saying so out loud.
Furuholmen has shown great songwriting capabilities both with a-Ha and in solo projects, and he definitely should keep writing music. Mr. Furuholmen’s multi-talent also spans across painting, sculpting, video art and poetry.
I have no relation what so ever with the coldplayer from bassplay.. er, I mean the bassplayer from Coldplay, though, other than that he plays bass guitar. I can think of just one good track from that perfectly white, successful and fantastically boring band, and that is, believe it or not, the song Clocks.
I sort of like this new Apparatjik thing. Dreamy, sort of experimental, reminiscent of my earliest encounters of synth pop as a kid, all in all quite pleasant, though a bit on the stiff side. I even went ahead and bought the album digitally. Here’s a small taste.
(The tracks were both freely available to download from nrk.no/lydverket, though I’m not sure they are aware. Enjoy!)
